Taylor Swift, “Innocent” (Lyrics + Live MP3)

12 Sep

This is a really pretty song. But, of course, it’s Taylor Swift. It should be. I really would like to hear this in a studio setting.

Download an MP3 of the live performance here or here (Usershare) here (Mediafire). Lyrics first, after the jump.

Lyrics:

I guess you really did it this time
Left yourself in your warpath
Lost your balance on a tightrope
Lost your mind tryin’ to get it back

Wasn’t it easier in your lunchbox days?
Always a bigger bed to crawl into
Wasn’t it beautiful when you believed in everything?
And everybody believed in you?

It’s all right, just wait and see
Your string of lights is still bright to me
Oh, who you are is not what you’ve been
You’re still an innocent
You’re still an innocent

Did some things you can’t speak of
But tonight you’ll live it all again
You wouldn’t be shattered on the floor now
If only you had seen what you know now then

Wasn’t it easier in your firefly-catchin’ days?
And everything out of reach, someone bigger brought down to you
Wasn’t it beautiful runnin’ wild ’til you fell asleep?
Before the monsters caught up to you?

It’s all right, just wait and see
Your string of lights is still bright to me
Oh, who you are is not what you’ve been
You’re still an innocent

It’s okay, life is a tough crowd
32, and still growin’ up now
Who you are is not what you did
You’re still an innocent

Time turns flames to embers
You’ll have new Septembers
Every one of us has messed up too

Lives change like the weather
I hope you remember
Today is never to late to
Be brand new

It’s all right, just wait and see
Your string of lights are still bright to me
Oh, who you are is not where you’ve been
You’re still an innocent

It’s okay, life is a tough crowd
32, and still growin’ up now
Who you are is not what you did
You’re still an innocent
You’re still an innocent

Lost your balance on a tightrope
It’s never too late to get it back

Great song!! Well written Taylor! Loved the part “32 and still growing up now”, obviously he’s very childish and you are the mature one in this whole situation. You looked so pretty at the VMA’s, keep it up!

She wasn’t trying to say that with this song. She was forgiving him. “You string of lights is still bright to me” She says she thinks no less of him because of what happened. “Every one of us has messed up too” She forgave him long ago and this song is to get her fans to do the same.

haha this song is so stupid.
“Wasn’t it easier in your lunchbox days?
Always a bigger bed to crawl into
Wasn’t it beautiful when you believed in everything?
    And everybody believed in you?”
um has she ever even MET kanye west aside from their little tif? she has no right to psychoanalyze someone she doesn’t even KNOW. honestly she just comes off seriously self righteous in this song. i can’t believe she actually wrote a song about kanye… hahaha weaaaak

      Exactly.

its not condescending to kanye AT ALL.
she wrote this song about how she forgave him
“who you are is not what you did”
she’s saying that even though he messed up it’s not who he is all the time
      “your still an innocent”
      this should be pretty self-explanatory
she’s forgiving him for what happened.
      she’s not “psychoanalyzing” anyone.

hahahaha.. and who are you to say she HASN’T ever met him?.. Do you know her, or who she’s met? Your an idiot.

I so love this song and to whoever wrote comment 5 is stupid she’s saying things that children did and they were going to make a song together anyway so stop being a hater and if you don’t like her or the song get over it, grow up, and don’t comment on it

Haha zoe did I miss the part where reviews have to be positive? And who is “they”? Kanye and swift? What a huge lie. Kanye would never stoop so low. Face it your chick has lost her shine and people are starting to realize she’s not as talented as the media built her up to be.

Let’s give a toast to the douchebags.

Uh actually, Yes, Kanye had said that he wrote a song for Taylor that he would like to give to her and if she doesn’t want to sing it then he will sing it for her.
He also said that he loves Taylor’s music, so if you’re “hatin’ ” on Taylor just because you think Kanye doesn’t like her, well then you’re alone there.

But each to their own opinion, so if you don’t like her then that’s fine, but why are you looking up her lyrics?

I don’t know really, but I think that Taylor was just forgiving Kanye. I think she’s saying that she knew he was having a tough time, and she doesn’t want her/his fans to hate him because of one mistake in his life. I think she says “32 and still growing up now” not because he’s immature, but because we are all still growing and are able to make mistakes. This is a beautiful song, and I think that the point isn’t just Kanye, as it also means that everyone makes mistakes. Just my input though!(:

    I ❤ T-swift! 😀

I love Taylor and this song. It’s absolutely beautiful and the lyrics are powerful…

I think it was the perfect way to show that she forgives Kanye, but it’s also really inspiring for adults who have made their share of mistakes.

Innocent is actually my favorite song of Taylor’s. Anyone who thinks she was out of place to sing it or that she acted immature is simply ignorant.
